Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) is undertaking a significant expansion to enhance its production capabilities. The Mill Expansion Plan (MEP) at Unit II in Mondipatti, Tiruchirapalli, is structured in two phases. Phase I, recently inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, involved the installation of a modern chemical hardwood pulp mill with a capacity of 400 tonnes per day (tpd) and a chemical recovery island. This phase required an investment of approximately ₹1,385 crore.

Phase II of the MEP focuses on further expanding capacity at Unit II. Additionally, TNPL is investing ₹520 crore in the Revamping of Steam and Power System (RSPS) #2 project, aimed at integrating the existing coal feeding system with the steam and power distribution network. This project is expected to be completed by June 2025.

In line with its commitment to sustainability, TNPL plans to install rooftop solar power plants at both Unit I and Unit II, as well as a 2 MW floating solar power plant on water storage reservoirs at Unit I. These initiatives reflect TNPL’s strategic efforts to enhance production capacity, operational efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
