The Government of Tamil Nadu has implemented several initiatives to bolster specialty paper manufacturing in the state, focusing on sustainable practices and industrial growth.

Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) Expansion

TNPL, a government-promoted entity, has unveiled plans to establish a 100 tonnes per day tissue paper plant, aiming to enhance its specialty paper production capacity. This initiative aligns with TNPL’s mission to produce one million tonnes of paper by 2030, reinforcing its position as a leading bagasse-based paper manufacturer.

Sustainable Manufacturing Practices

TNPL is committed to sustainability, utilizing bagasse—a sugarcane byproduct—as a primary raw material. This eco-friendly approach not only reduces environmental impact but also supports the agricultural sector by providing a market for residual biomass.

Policy Support and Industrial Development

The Tamil Nadu government has introduced the Tamil Nadu Manufacturing Business Support Scheme under the Tamil Nadu Industrial Policy 2021. This scheme offers incentives such as funding for technology acquisition, quality assurance certifications, and export promotion assistance, aiming to enhance the competitiveness of manufacturers, including those in the specialty paper sector.

Infrastructure and Investment Facilitation

The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO) plays a pivotal role in advancing medium- and large-scale industries through joint ventures and the development of industrial corridors. These efforts create a conducive environment for the growth of specialty paper manufacturing by providing the necessary infrastructure and facilitating investments.

Through these strategic initiatives, the Government of Tamil Nadu is actively promoting the expansion and sustainability of specialty paper manufacturing within the state.
