Tamil Nadu’s specialty paper manufacturing sector is experiencing notable growth, driven by strategic expansions and a focus on sustainable practices. A key player in this development is Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL), which has unveiled ambitious plans to diversify its product offerings. TNPL is contemplating entering the specialty paper market by producing items such as wrapping, gift, and tissue papers. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on imports and cater to domestic demand with locally manufactured specialty papers.
In line with its diversification strategy, TNPL has announced the establishment of a 100 tonnes per day tissue paper plant at its Unit II facility. This expansion underscores TNPL’s commitment to enhancing its specialty paper production capabilities and meeting the growing market demand for tissue products.
Sustainability remains a core focus for TNPL, as evidenced by its pioneering use of bagasse—a byproduct of sugarcane processing—as a primary raw material. This eco-friendly approach not only supports environmental conservation but also aligns with global trends towards sustainable manufacturing practices. TNPL’s efforts have positioned it as a leader in sustainable paper production, with plans to achieve a production capacity of one million tonnes by 2030.
The growth of specialty paper manufacturing in Tamil Nadu is further supported by the state’s robust industrial infrastructure and skilled workforce. The region’s commitment to industrial development creates a conducive environment for manufacturers to innovate and expand their operations, thereby contributing to the overall advancement of the specialty paper sector.
